I've been at it again!

I really like sushi.
I mean, don't get me wrong, there is nothing like a big ol' steak or a juicy hamburger from time to time but sushi sings to my soul too.
So I decided to learn to make some for myself.
I borrowed my pal's sushi rolling mat, did some research and then pondered.
The pondering portion of this activity was extensive. Today, finally, I had all the ingredients I wanted, the time, and the inclination.
So I made...
California rolls with carrot, avocado, cucumber, and smoked salmon.
The smoked salmon made it more attractive to Thing One.
It could probably be prettier, but it was pretty tasty.
The salmon was smoked by Mr. Logo, the rice cooker did most of the work on that, so all I really had to do was chop up some carrots, cukes, avocado and roll it into the nori.
The mess makes it seem like a more impressive undertaking though, doesn't it?
Here is a little plate ready to go to my friend when I return her sushi mat.
It was nummy and I made it all by myself!

I , believe it or not, have never tried sushi but I have heard it is delicious and one night I too am going to try to make it all by myself. I watch food network and Barefoot Contessa makes it look so simple...lol.

It looks really good!

Yay for you and your willing ambition! My husband has made sushi a few times, and I love it. Of course, I hate fish, so my sushi is all veggie roll...

OK now, if you were to roll all that rice and stuff up in the nori instead of having the nori inside...it would be a lot easier, and would end up looking like a giant green cigar which youy would then cut and the nori sticks together once moisture from the inside comes to it....it really is easier for people that are clearly NOT Californians and need a little help.

:P
PS I have never eaten sushi with fishs in it, yuk. Cali rolls only.

It does look tasty and once the saki is gone, they wont care what it looks like.

ok, smoked salmon sold me, otherwise sushi does not much for me.

Yum yum yum, I love me a good California roll. My mom used to make them and we would eat them as fast as she could roll them out. She always puts the seaweed (is that called nori?) on the outside, though. DELISH.

See, I told you to put the seaweed on the outside! :P

Wow. You are a true kitchen marvel. No kidding. We're not sushi eaters here. Husband can't (intestinal disease) and I don't wanna (no likey). But even if I loved it, I think I'd save this feast for the sushi bar.
