The 2004 Oscar for Best Song

was won by a GENIUS, Annie Lennox (written with Fran Walsh and Howard Shore).
It was in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. In addition to my passion for Annie Lennox I will confess, I am a bit of a LOTR fan. I don't always love movie music, but sometimes it's just enjoyable stuff, like this.
Anyway, I've been really enjoying this song lately.

(I have to add a geek note. Though I make no claims to musical competence, it seems to be that Howard Shore did some amazing things with the sound tracks of these movies. I have no idea what he is doing these days but I hope he isn't starving in some tiny, drafty flat with a bunch of kids).

OK, and it's only barely Friday but here are 55 words.

I love my country.
I wish I could be proud of my fellow citizens, all of them,
but I can’t.
I love our rights.
I love our freedoms.
I believe in personal responsibility.
I believe we are our brothers’ keepers.
I hate the pettiness and prejudices recently brought to light.

I can’t wait for Tuesday!

This is a post to push the other one down a bit since it is clearly not the weekend anymore.

I have once again stolen my post idea from Lime.
She went all wacky with it and since I'm actually doing it on the exact same day I thought I should probably at least do it in a different style.
I shall attempt to play this one straight.
Wish me luck!

Where do I buy my clothes?

I'm not a big fan of the shopping, as some of you may recall, although I do love saving money. Often my clothing comes from secondhand shops, Ross, or TJ Maxx.
If I going to buy new I often do it online. Lands End Overstocks, baby, yeah!

Where did my furniture come from?

My furniture...hmmm, well, my bedroom set was passed on to us by my husband's family. We have supplemented with Pier One type finds (sometimes at Ross).
One of the kids' dressers and one small book shelf was passed on from my family.
My breakfast room table, hall tree, fruit stand, corner table, and living room coffee table all came home with us from Italy.
My buffet was found in a garden shop, on it's last little leg. I sanded it for about two weeks straight, my uncle replaced the veneer on top and we replaced the bottoms of the drawers. We also replaced all the hardware and covered up the damaged cupboard corners. It was a lot of work, but we are very pleased with it.
The dining room table, wall table, and end table all came from an antique mall.
The kids' beds, night stands, one dresser, our computer armoire, living room book shelves, and our TV stand were all d-i-y projects to one extent or another.
My school room book shelves were slated for disposal when the Navy bookstore in Naples moved. The staff happily sent the thing home with us when Mr. Logo voiced some interested. We have some oddly shaped shelves in the school room we got that way as well.
We have a desk handed down by an auntie, a coffee table that was once a missile crate, and a table from Mr. Logo's mom.
The rest of it we bought here and there at unimportant furniture stores that steal the soul of humanity with their faceless conformity.

Where do I live?

I live in a house, in the woods, near the Puget Sound, in Washington state, in the United States, in North America, Earth, Milky Way Galaxy.

Favorite books?

All time favorites are too hard, so let’s just talk about current favorites. The Things and I just read Island of the Blue Dolphins, which was pretty good. I read Eating Heaven this weekend, which was enjoyable, but the current favorite is The Pig Scrolls.

Favorite movies?

I’m in a 6 hour BBC Pride and Prejudice frame of mind.

Favorite music?

According to Rob, my favorite tune in the CNN theme music.

Favorite TV show?

Life, Heroes, and My Own Worst Enemy are my favorites at the moment

Who gets hit?

In the grand karmic sense, those who deserve it.

Are you freaking kidding me?

The gal with the odd accent and interesting grasp of English , as well as a secessionist husband, is going to slam a guy who knows a guy who was pardoned for acts committed over 40 years ago?

Seriously, could our potential leaders PLEASE try to grow a little dignity and address matters of national and international importance with some sense that the American public deserves honesty and clear answers rather than bluster and word salad?

Lewis Black says a monkey should choose our president.

A friend of mine says all elections should be held with a phone book, a blindfold, and a stick pin.

Since we are revamping that whole free market capitalism idea, maybe we should take a look at our election system too.
