You're driving down the road, and suddenly you're hit with this sense of road rage.
What 3 factors probably contributed to it?
I don't really do road rage, but if I were to experience a passing sense of exasperation it would probably be because:
Someone tried to kill me through blantant stupidity,
Someone is driving as if they are the only person on the road, OR
The person in front of me is weaving around, going 15 mph under the speed limit, has had their blinker on for the last 5 minutes and they are talking on their cell phone.

If you could go back and talk to the old you, when you were in high school, and inform yourself of 4 things, what would you say?
This too shall pass.
The wedge hair style of the early 90s will be better in concept than reality, skip that.
Look both ways before crossing, dumbass!
Rice is not like waffles, you don't have to have a rice maker.

It's not as bad as it could have been, that's for sure

Megan's neck, contrary to initial impressions is intact. Her neck brace is off. After a few days to heal up she is off the ventilator, and her blood oxygen levels are way healthy. After a barium swallow test they decided she can eat soft foods. Today she seemed much more her regular self, although weak, and her neck is hurting still a bit at times and she is on antibiotics.
It's been amazing how well she's healed.
Thank you for your concern and prayers.

On my way to Spokane...

Once upon a time 2 ten year old girls met and they liked each other right away.
Unfortunately, they lived about 75 miles away from each other.
They wrote letters to each other, and kept in touch. They only managed to see each other once a year or so for a long time.
Then...
they learned to drive.
They would go and visit each other for weekends, and during the summer.
When they grew up they finally got to live in the same town for a while.
When Logo had her first baby her friend Stephanie was there with her,
and 8 months later Stephanie had her first baby.
Years went by, more babies were born, and across continents and oceans,
the two of them remained kindred souls.

Today, my friend sits in the pediatric wing of a hospital in Spokane with her daughter Megan.
Megan is 8, and her neck was broken in a tubing accident on the river over there while they were on vacation.
I am on my way over there.
All prayers, good thoughts, or well-wishes are very welcome.

Show and tell

This is food I cooked, well, part of it, but the point of interest here is that those are tomatoes we grew our very own selves. OK, so maybe I'm not much of a gardner, but forever I will be able to say I help grow something and then we ate it.
Oh, key point, and it didn't make us sick or anything!
These are baby birds that have been growing in our yard. This is the second batch from that nest. Mama robin is unstoppable! Also, she has quite an attitude.
This is my Thing Two at a museum. He loves the interactive displays. They have little fisher...person outfits for the children to try on and then they can board the trawler and make like they are starring in The Deadliest Catch, with less swearing though, I hope.
Here is my motorcyclin' galpal and I when we were out on our ride last week. Good tmes.

...and the pendulum swings.

OK, now it really is raining.
Bummer.

Oh, and by the way,
migraines suck.

Friday Flash Nonfiction in 55 words

Wind and engine noise combine into a song as I ease into 5th gear and lean into a curve. Pressure on the handlebar, lean just a little, roll on the throttle, and Red Molly flies through the twisty like a low-flying plane. The sunshine sparkles on the water, it’s a beautiful day for a ride.
______________________________

Today I am taking Red Molly to the Olympic Peninsula which will include a ferry ride. I will visit with some friends there and then head home this evening. It is another gorgeous day and I am so looking forward to the ride.
Oops, I mean, it's raining... again...still more.
You'd hate it here.

My motorcycle galpal and I are going on a ride again tomorrow.
(Photo from our last ride, in July)
Have I mentioned lately that I think Red Molly is about the prettiest bike ever in the world?
Waaaaaaaay back in the mists of time (some of you may recall the days) the VStar was merely a wish, a hope, a dweam within a dweam.
Then one day, about a year and a half ago, my darling Mr. Logo bought me the bike of my fantasies, and there was much rejoicing.
I do so love riding my Red Molly. We are planning to ride Chuckanut Drive. In addition to being fun to say, it's also beautiful, and it is also fun to ride, much with the twisties :D

Oh and just as a shout out to the internets at large:
759 spam mails in 8 hours? Chill the **** out, would you?!

Thing Two has been loving the Honda ATC 70 his daddy bought him. He has learned to pop wheelies on it and had put a ton of miles on it driving through our yard. The Things and their father went to an off road vehicle area last week and they all had a very good time.
I went to See Mama Mia!
Merle Streep was great, of course, and the interaction between her and her two friends was so much fun to watch. Pierce Brosnan gets an A for effort and a polite request that he never ever again make those faces while singing.
Awkward!
My latest attempt to go golfing was thwarted by rain, which was tiresome, but instread my pal and I went out to eat and roamed an outlet shopping mall. There may have been mocking.
While sorting through Netflix, attempting to find appropriate family viewing, we happened upon the A Team and Knight Rider. We watched the pilot episodes of both shows. Thing One enjoyed them both but Thing Two definitely preferred Knight Rider. Mr. Logo and I, in a fine display of SNL damage, both turned to each other as the credits were running and said in unison,
"Germans LOVE David Hasselhoff."
Trying to explain why that is funny resulted in one of those, "I guess you had to be there" moments. My children exchanged looks that clearly indicated they think their parents are at least mildly retarded. Ahhh, the joys of family life.
Tomorrow Thing One heads off to camp for a week. I have plans for another girl's day out on the motorcycles.
I can't believe summer is almost over.
What the heck happened??

Saturday, August 09, 2008

well, piss!

I was suppose to go golfing today.
It is raining...hard.
I am not golfing.
I am displeased.
