More pics, because

I haven't a lot to say or time to say it.

Here is my new dining room light.

We actually do manage to eat together at this table most nights of the week. The number will decrease as baseball season starts but I also teach my writing class at this table. We are currently trying to decide what color we should paint in the dining room. Any suggestions?

(the color needs to coordinate with the living room color with can be seen in the photo below)

This is the light fixture that was in my entryway with the before colors.

This is the new light fixture with the after colors.
This is Thing One doing his spelling.

Perhaps one day research will indicate some people spell better sideways.

He got a 98% on the section which is better than he has been doing.

Next we see Thing Two hiding out in a mini-fort.
I'm not sure why I am getting that look, he wanted me to take the picture.

I put the first coat of paint on the exterior of the front door and I LOVE it! It needs another going over but it already makes me happy. Voila! The door to the happiness which is my home.

Welcome!

Love the pics! You guys are kicking some ass...and the boys...well, they are always fun to see. What about a really soft buttery color? Or straw?

I heard that studies are being conducted to prove that math is easier when standing on one's head.

Your door beckons me. It is inviting.
Your "things" seem like delightful, hardworking children.
Your new dining room light is to "dine" for...LOL
Love it. Colours, not sure. How about a cafe latte colour? Goes well with your earthiness. And the reds in the room.
xoxo Mwah~!

Ooooh! Awesome colours!!! I love how Thing One does his spelling. ^_^

Tell me about painting your door. I've been dying to paint mine. Where did you stop? did you go around the edges? What kind of paint? Anything speical?

Dude, you were spying on his fort. That is why he gave you that look.

Don't quite know why, but Thing Two's expression, when I first saw it, immediately made me think of Egan as a boy. Very cute.

Behind The Orange Door. Has a nice ring to it.

Beautiful pics Ms. 'go. Love the fixtures. I really do.

I def think something paler than the door for the dining room.....on the neutralish yellow or tan side..hey thast not fun is it? well the rest of your walls look like saffron curry and squash soup, so why not have some basmati or brown rice color to go with it?

Thank you for enlarged font..there is hope for your readership...that we can now READ YOUR BLOG~ :P

Cindra~ Thank you, I forgot how exhausting painting with alot of detail work can be. Contrasting trim looks better but dang, its alot of extra work. Butter or straw you say, mmmmmm, interesting.

Lime~ Rob asked if I wanted to do the surround on thesemi-circular window panes in lime green. I thought that might take it in a slightly over the top direction.

Snavy~ Now that is just ridiculous.
:p

Blue~ Oh good, inviting is the goal! Mr. Logo found and installed the dining room light and did an excellent job of it. You know, a brown in there might be nice too, hmm.

Candace~ When I walked in and saw him doing that it made me think of your kids reading upside down, heh heh, funny childrens. We did the outside orange color just to the edge, the inside squashy color just to the edge and then did the center the brown of our trim, excessively complex and time consuming you say? Yes, I completely agree, but that is what we did :p

Grunt~ I was NOT spying, I was invited, dang it!

Gawpo~ Egan was a cutie, Thing Two is a cutie, I will accept that comparison. Behind the orange door, it does sound interesting, I like it.

Goldennib~ Oh good, wanna come over for tea?

Susie~ No tangerine orange for the dining room? Oh, fine! :p
Brown, huh? Not red or blue or purple? Ok, noted.

Isn't redecorating fun! I'm long overdue. I like the color of your blog background next to the color of the living room. They say you eat more though when surrounded by reds and yellows. Blues suppress your appetite. Don't paint blue though. The 1980's look hasn't quite come back into fashion yet. ;) Love the orange door! I'd lose the storm door though to show it off.

Cool! Did you have to use any specific kind of paint? Enamel, like ExoRust? Exterior house paint? I'm so inspired, but I don't want to buy the wrong kind of paint. :-P

Heh, my upside-down kids were what sprang to my mind as well when I saw Thing One. Maybe there's something about repositioning the brain that aids concentration. ^_^

Balou~ I do love redecorating, and this house NEEDED it. The people who were here before us had an unnatural affection, affectation even, for pink. In my last house I painted the dining room red, it was gorgeous (comma splice). The 80s are definitely not quite back around here! ;p

Candace~ We used a regular old exterior paint (high gloss) but since it's a metal surface an oil based might have been better. The chick at the paint center said we could just prime and use a regular old latex however I am not satisfied with the way the second coat went on (dangling preposition). It is not bad, just not as smooth as I would have liked and that probably had to do with humidity, a clever friend pointed out. We didn't pick our brand so much as we picked our color then went with the brand who actually offered it.
Oh, and don't use a cheap brush!

Awesome! Thanks! I'm so inspired. I wish it would get warm enough to paint. :-P

If you can spell sideways, you can conquer the world! I'd stay with a variation on gold for the dining room - I love the names they come up with for paint colors. You'll probably find something in a Tahitian Tawn, or Arcadian Amber, or Golden Savannah Sunset...

oooooh!!! Home improvement city. I ADORE the colors (very warm!) and I love the light fixtures, too!!!

I love your home improvement pics. The light fixtures are very cool and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the front door. Oh yeah. It's very good. It makes me happy too, just to look at it.

Candace~ I hear ya, I can't wait for it to get dry enough to ride!

Joe~ I am not telling Thing One that, it will merely serve to encourage him in his world conquest plans. Yes! Those are exactly the names, so you have NO idea what color it actually is.

Actonbell~ I love looking at all of them at the home center, so many pretty ones and oh man, why do I ALWAYS like the most expensive ones?!

Anie~ Its been alot of work, but very satisfying and we love it.

Schnoodlepooh~ Oh GOOD, I am glad it makes other people feel that way too. The Things were not so sure it was the best choice, but what do they know?

Is the dining room painted yet?

Logophile said...

NO!
Don't rush me, dammit, I'm an artist.
Let me create!
And I think the breakfast room might be next anyway.

OooOO I lovrrre the colors! Very happy, very YOU! :D And I used to read sideways, but everyone does that when they're laying down, right? Maybe it's just a genius thing... hmm... :P

Logophile said...

I still read sideways, lying on the couch or floor or whatever, but I've never used laptop in that position. Seems to work for him though. Glad you like the colors, me too!

Yeah color! These people who use beige and off white for everything drive me nuts!
